ANKARA — Turkish rescue teams recovered the bodies of the remaining three miners trapped underground on Friday, bringing the death toll from a coal mine collapse in western Turkey to five.

The privately owned underground mine in the western town of Soma collapsed on Thursday, trapping seven miners. Two were rescued alive and the bodies of two others were recovered later that day.

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Friday that rescue teams had reached the remaining three miners. One of the two injured miners remains hospitalized and the other has been discharged, Bayraktar added.

According to local authorities in Soma, a section of the mine's roof caved in Thursday afternoon. Turkish prosecutors have launched an investigation into the incident, whose cause remains unclear.
