Returning Egyptians share nightmares of fleeing war in Ukraine
Egyptian students who fled the Russian war in Ukraine recount the details of their repatriation.
CAIRO — Efforts to evacuate Egyptian nationals from Ukraine have been ongoing since Russia launched its war on Feb. 24.
On March 7, 150 Egyptian citizens were evacuated via Romania, according to the Egyptian Embassy there.
As soon as the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, Egyptian authorities called on Egyptians in Ukraine to head to the border with Romania, Moldova or Poland as soon as they safely could in order to facilitate their repatriation to Cairo.
Egyptian Ambassador to Romania Moayad el-Dalie said in a phone interview with MBC Egypt on March 1 that coordination was underway for the repatriation of Egyptian students who were mostly heading to the Romanian border. He said buses were provided to transport them to the Egyptian Embassy in Romania.
