Many women in the Gaza Strip face physical, sexual and psychological abuse. Violence against women is increasing exponentially as a result of the deteriorating living and economic conditions within families and the increase in poverty due to the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza and the lack of job opportunities.

With this abuse in mind, three young women working in software development created a user-friendly, confidential app called Our Spaces to provide psychological, legal and economic assistance to abused women. 

Amid the dangerous rates of violence against women, the Hamas government in Gaza established in 2019 Bayt al-Aman, a safe house that serves as the only official shelter in the coastal enclave. The shelter allows abused women to stay overnight and provides them with protection from family violence until the existing disputes are settled.

As first-time Our Spaces users, women must fill in their information on the app, after which they can access a set of services provided by the relevant institutions that offer psychological support, health services, legal services, economic empowerment services and shelter services for abused women.
