UAE exempts coronavirus patients, doctors from Ramadan fast
Religious authorities in the United Arab Emirates have said patients suffering from COVID-19 and doctors treating them are exempt from fasting for Ramadan.
COVID-19 patients in the United Arab Emirates and the medical workers caring for them do not need to fast during the holy month of Ramadan, religious authorities in the Gulf country said late Sunday.
"If a doctor asks a person not to fast as it might affect his immunity, then the person has the right not to fast during Ramadan," said the Emirates Fatwa Council.
Health care workers aren’t required to fast during their shifts if doing so “could lead to weakening their immunity or to losing their patients,” the council said, according to state news agency WAM.
The council also said that the evening Taraweeh prayer can be done in the home and warned against congregating for the Eid Al Fitr prayer at the end of the month, as doing so “could endanger lives, an act that is strictly forbidden in Islam.”
