From New York: Gaza war, not outside agitators, cause of Columbia protests

New York City Mayor Eric Adams this week referred to “outside agitators” co-opting the pro-Palestinian encampments and demonstrators at Columbia University and City College of New York (CCNY) this week, following the arrests of 282 protesters at the Manhattan colleges.

Adams said 29% of those arrested at Columbia and 60% of those at CCNY were not affiliated with the universities.

“The numbers are opaque, and the definition of affiliated, or unaffiliated, is unclear," said Shayeza Walid, a reporter and graduate student at Columbia University's School of Journalism.
