French NGO provides temporary jobs for Syrians in the northwest

A Syrian labourer works at a workshop specialised in building pistachio-powered heaters in al-Dana town in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib on December 18, 2019.

In coordination with the local councils, the French relief organization ACTED launched the Cash for Work project in northern Syria to offer job opportunities to the unemployed in return for a per diem allowance that helps employees cope with the dire economic conditions caused by the 10-year-old Syrian war.

ACTED works in 30 countries, including Syria, and has offices in those countries where it employs locals. Its main mission is to ensure long-term opportunities for the most vulnerable groups in hard-to-reach areas that have suffered from conflict, natural disaster or socio-economic hardship.
