Egypt builds on COP27 with electric bus deal

The deal follows Egypt hosting the COP27 climate change conference, during which Egypt also announced a plan to develop high-speed rail.

The Egyptian government recently signed an agreement to produce a fleet of electric buses in the country.

Egypt’s Transport and Military Production ministries signed the roughly $28 million agreement with the international bus manufacturer MCV to make 100 electric buses locally in Egypt. The buses will ultimately run on the Ring Road that encircles Cairo and its suburbs, Egypt’s state Information Service said Saturday.

MCV has offices in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Singapore.

Why it matters: The agreement follows Egypt’s hosting of the United Nations climate change conference COP27 last month. Egypt unveiled many new projects related to green technology and renewable energy at the conference, including a green hydrogen plant and new wind farm.
