India, Morocco open new military factory in Casablanca region
The facility will make WhAP 8x8 armored combat vehicles for the Moroccan military and international markets.
Morocco and India have established a new defense factory near Casablanca as Rabat continues to strengthen its military industry amid regional instability and an arms race with its neighbor, Algeria.
The Tata Advanced Systems Maroc factory in Berrechid was inaugurated on Tuesday under the directive of King Mohammed VI, according to India’s state-run Press Information Bureau.
The factory is a partnership between Morocco’s Administration of National Defense, India’s Ministry of Defense and the Indian aerospace and military company TATA Advanced Systems Limited.
The facility will make WhAP 8x8 armored combat vehicles for the Moroccan military and international markets, the statement read, noting that the first deliveries are expected next month. The plant became operational three months ahead of schedule and production is already underway.
