Riyadh airport issues travel alert as Yemen's Houthis claim fresh attack on Saudi Arabia

Hundreds of flights to and from the Saudi capital were canceled or delayed on Thursday, with passengers being urged to check with airlines before heading to the airport.

Flights to and from Riyadh were severely disrupted on Thursday after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed they had targeted the Saudi capital’s main airport, King Khalid International Airport.

The airport issued a travel alert on Thursday urging passengers to contact their airlines and confirm their flight status before heading to the airport.

What happened: Flightradar24, a website that tracks global air traffic, showed hundreds of cancellations and delays at the airport on Thursday.

As of 10:10 a.m. EST, 324 flights — 41% of all scheduled flights — had been canceled at King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, while around 24%, or 188 flights, had been delayed, according to Flightradar24.
