Israel braces for Iran attack as Trump’s economic squeeze on Tehran intensifies

TEL AVIV — Israeli security agencies are struggling to assess Iran’s intentions and the likelihood that Tehran could strike Israel in the coming days, and the military is on high alert for a potential attack.
The Jewish High Holidays, a three-week period that begins Friday, are often marked by heightened security threats against Israel and corresponding high alert levels. This year, the combination of Israel’s inconclusive wars with Iran and its regional affiliates and the fateful upcoming Oct. 27 elections is particularly tense.
Israel favors US President Donald Trump’s policy of strangling Iran’s economy rather than resuming all-out war. But it is preparing for the latter, for fear that the economic action could lead Iran to expand its ongoing missile and drones attacks on US allies in the Gulf to Israel.
