After US-Iran deal, Ghalibaf says Tehran seeks deeper ties with China
“China must believe and will believe that we are not just a customer or a trading partner, but a partner in every sense,” Ghalibaf said.
One of Iran’s senior political figures said Wednesday that Iran and China will form the core of emerging geopolitical alliances as Tehran prepares to enter a new round of negotiations with Washington on Friday.
Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf — who last month was appointed Iran’s special representative for China affairs — said that as new regional and international blocs take shape, Iran and China will be at their center.
What happened: “Given the conditions in the region, friends have accurately said that we need to form new blocs. Of course, these blocs have been formed to some extent, and in any bloc that is formed in the future, the two countries of Iran and China will have a definite presence and will be the axis of these blocs," Ghalibaf said in a meeting with Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA.
