Turkey, UK advance $11B Eurofighter jet deal with training agreement
Britain and Turkey signed a training and support agreement marking “the next phase” of Ankara’s entry into the Eurofighter program, building on a £8 billion jet deal signed last year.
ANKARA — Turkey and the United Kingdom on Wednesday signed a follow-on agreement advancing Ankara’s integration into the Eurofighter Typhoon program, including pilot training and operational support, as part of a nearly $11 billion deal concluded last year.
The agreement was signed during a visit by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler to London, where he met his British counterpart, Defense Secretary John Healey.
Inside the deal: Britain’s Defense Ministry said the deal covers “UK-based training for Turkish pilots and ground crew” and marks “the next phase of Turkey’s entry into the Eurofighter program.”
The agreement is part of a broader $10.7 billion deal tied to Turkey’s acquisition of Typhoon jets and is for “reinforcing NATO’s combat air capability on its eastern flank,” according to the British Defense Ministry’s statement.
