Despite Israeli concerns, sources say Trump giving Iran talks up to 2 months
Leaving Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in the dark over his intentions, sources suggest that US President Trump decided on a deadline for the talks with Iran.
TEL AVIV — Wednesday's three-hour White House meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, the seventh with Donald Trump since he returned to office 13 months ago, revealed evident divergence on Iran as the US president signaled a clear preference for talks while increasing military leverage.
Unlike previous visits, Netanyahu entered the White House through a side door and exited the same way, avoiding the media and pro-Palestinian protesters across the street. His office released only one photo of the meeting.
Trump posted that no “definitive” decisions had been made on action against Iran, adding that he had insisted on continued negotiations with the Iranians to see whether an agreement was possible. He also praised the “tremendous progress” in the implementation of his peace plan in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu posted only a vague message, saying he had insisted on safeguarding Israel’s security interests in the US negotiations with Iran and that he and Trump had agreed to continue their close coordination.
