Spanish police announced Wednesday that they had arrested nine people and dismantled a criminal syndicate that used homemade drones “with exceptional range” to transport hashish from Morocco to Spain.

What happened: Spanish authorities seized more than 150 kilograms of hashish and more than 320,000 euros ($371,820) in cash in searches across southern Spain, in Alcala de los Gazules, Vejer de la Frontera, Algeciras and San Roque.

Police seized 18 drones, eight of which were homemade and 10 that were in the process of being assembled.

The Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie assisted the Spanish Guardia Civil in the investigation. Both forces noticed “an unusual number” of drone flights between the two countries, Hespress, a Rabat-based news outlet, reported, and traced the drones’ origin to Cadiz, Spain.
