Russia, Iran to boost ties in ‘all areas’ as Tehran claims nuclear restrictions expired
The cooperation pledges follow the weekend's joint letter from Russia, Iran and China to the UN, disputing the validity of reimposing sanctions on Iran.
Russia said on Monday it was ready to expand cooperation with Iran as the two countries appear to be deepening their ties.
“Russia is definitely ready to expand cooperation with Iran in all areas. Iran is our partner, and our relations are developing very dynamically,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow.
Peskov weighed in on tensions linked to the 2015 nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, calling the situation “very complicated” and criticizing European countries’ “unconstructive position,” which he said has made resolving the matter even more difficult.
“We believe that negotiations are necessary. There is no justification for exerting excessive pressure in this manner on Iran, the sovereign country of Iran,” Peskov stressed.
