ANKARA — Iran’s defense minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh, arrived in Turkey Wednesday for a two-day visit aimed at deepening military and defense ties between the two neighbors.

Nasirzadeh met with his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler, on the first day of his visit, the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Neither side provided specifics on the talks, though Nasirzadeh said before the meeting that the visit was designed to reinforce defense and military ties.

“The cooperation between our two countries, particularly in the defense sector, is essential for establishing stability and security along our shared borders, which exceed 500 kilometers in length,” Nasirzadeh was quoted as saying by Iranian state media.
