UAE president makes first-ever visit to Angola as part of Africa push
The UAE president’s visit to Angola, his first, marks a major step in the already strong relations between the two nations.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with his Angolan counterpart, Joao Manuel Lourenco, during an official visit to Angola on Monday, the first by an Emirati head of state to the southern African country since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1997.
Sheikh Mohamed arrived in Angola on Sunday at the head of a high-level delegation that includes senior Emirati officials and ministers, including the ministers of foreign trade, economy and investment.
Lourenco received Sheikh Mohamed at the presidential palace in Luanda, where he was greeted by an honor guard and a 21-gun salute, according to the UAE state-run news agency.
The two officials then discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations to advance joint development projects in the fields of energy, technology, agriculture, food security and logistics, among others.
