'We were wrong': Israel misreads Trump 2.0 as storm brews with Europe

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces growing pressure to end his current Gaza campaign, not only by the international community but by the Trump administration as well.

TEL AVIV — Did US Vice President JD Vance reconsider his plan to visit Israel because of its offensive in the Gaza Strip? If so, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has one more reason to worry as the Trump administration increases pressure against its military activities.

Axios reported Monday that Vance had decided against going to Israel in a sign of the complicated relations between the second Trump administration and the Israeli government. 

Washington ups pressure

Last week, American envoys Steve Witkoff and Adam Boehler arrived in Jerusalem to celebrate the release of American-Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, achieved without the involvement of Israel. One of Netanyahu's associates told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity that while the premier was glad for the release, he did not join in the jubilation.
