ANKARA — As part of rapidly warming ties between Turkey and Syria’s new administration, Turkey’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines will resume flights to Damascus international airport next week after a 14-year hiatus.

Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Eksi announced on social media on Wednesday that the first flight from Istanbul Airport to Damascus is set for Jan. 23.

“We are returning to Syria's Damascus. We will begin our flights to Damascus on Jan. 23 with three weekly flights,” Eksi wrote on X.

The first flight will depart from Istanbul Airport at 9:00 a.m. local time, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu News Agency reported.
