LONDON — The United Kingdom and the United States on Monday announced new sanctions to target the “domestic threat” posed by the Iranian government, including alleged plots to kill people on British and American soil.

The British Foreign Ministry and the US Treasury announced the measures in separate statements, sanctioning seven individuals and one organization, including senior Iranian officials allegedly involved in organized criminal gangs who collaborate with Iran’s government.

The people sanctioned also include Iranian officials responsible for “repression, harassment and coercion against journalists and human rights defenders” in the UK and elsewhere abroad.

Among those designated include members of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Unit 840, which was exposed in an investigation by ITV News to have allegedly masterminded a plot to assassinate two television presenters from news channel Iran International on British soil.
