Several Middle Eastern countries and organizations heeded a global call for a strike on Monday in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

A group of Palestinian activists and grassroots organizations on Sunday called on the people in Palestine and elsewhere in the world to join a strike in protest against the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and to pressure for a cease-fire.

“We expect the entire globe to join the strike, which comes in the context of a broad international movement involving influential figures. This movement stands against the open genocide in Gaza, the ethnic cleansing and the colonial settlement in the West Bank,” the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces said in a statement.

Labor and trade unions in Lebanon, Jordan and West Bank joined the strike, including the Engineers' Syndicate in Lebanon which closed its headquarters.
