DOHA — Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian confirmed on Monday that his government received messages from Washington regarding escalation in Iraq and Syria against US forces, but denied both knowledge and responsibility for these attacks.

Speaking via interpreter at the Doha Forum, Amir-Abdollahian said messages have been coming from the United States on a weekly basis. “I would like to be very transparent, every week we get messages from the Americans that their bases in Iraq and Syria are being targeted by some groups.”

“They have nothing to do with Iran. They are merely defending the people of Gaza,” he added.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, US forces stationed in Iraq and Syria have come under increasing attacks by Iran-backed militants. The Pentagon said over the weekend that those attacks have increased 50% over the past 3½ weeks, Fox News reported. The total number of attacks targeting US positions since the Gaza war stood at 84 attacks on Friday, the report said.
