Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed hosted US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Tuesday amid tensions with Iran and US military-related developments in the region.

The UAE president, often referred to by his initials MBZ, met with Sullivan in Abu Dhabi where the two discussed relations between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, as well as unspecified regional and international developments. The two men “stressed on the importance of joint action to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East,” the official Emirates News Agency reported.

UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also attended the meeting, as did Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, among other officials, according to the agency.

A National Security Council spokesperson told Al-Monitor that Sullivan met MBZ in Abu Dhabi following the talks in Saudi Arabia on the war in Ukraine. The two discussed issues of mutual concern and agreed to remain in contact, according to the spokesperson.
