Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi's father and agent has denied that his son's transfer to a Saudi Arabian team is "a done deal", despite earlier reports suggesting terms had been agreed.
Saudi Arabia has been lavishing its wealth made through oil on sport, with Saudi team Al-Nassr buying Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo in a deal worth $200 million in December.
The AFP news agency broke the Messi story on Tuesday, citing a source close to the negotiations that the 35-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward’s move to Saudi Arabia is “a done deal.”
"The contract is exceptional. It is huge. We are still finalizing some details," the source said, without saying which club Messi, who is widely regarded as the world’s best soccer player, will be joining.
