Rise in price of falafel leaves Palestinians hangry

The price hike of a falafel sandwich, a popular street food once available to all, has stirred wide resentment amid the increase of prices of other foodstuffs.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Nidal Sharaf watches the workflow at his restaurant, Nasr, in the northern West Bank city of Nablus. Sharaf recently had to raise prices.

Nasr, which Sharaf’s father opened in 1971, serves falafel, a street food staple whose recipe has been inherited by Palestinians over the years.
