Yadlin: Israel’s regime-change goal in Iran remote without US 'boots on the ground'
The former head of Israel's military intelligence directorate told Al-Monitor that Israel must prepare itself for a possible Iranian response if the US follows through on its threat to hit the Islamic Republic.
Tehran is likely to retaliate against Israel if President Donald Trump decides to strike the Islamic Republic, though Israel will look at the whole picture before reflexively launching an immediate reprisal strike.
In an interview with Al-Monitor Wednesday, the former head of Israel's military intelligence directorate, Amos Yadlin, said that Israel must prepare itself for a possible Iranian response on its territory if the US follows through on its threat to hit the Islamic Republic.
"Israel has a list of targets in Iran it could still hit" following last year's 12-day war with Iran, Yadlin said.
Apart from heading the intelligence directorate from 2006 to 2010, retired Maj. Gen. Yadlin served in the Israeli Air Force and as Israel’s military attache to Washington from 2004 to 2006. After leaving the military, he headed the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies. He is also the founder and president of Mind Israel, a nonprofit group that provides strategic geopolitical analysis for the private and government sectors.
