Twenty Israeli tourists are trapped in Lalibela in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region, as rebels advance in the area.

What happened: In their message to the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, the tourists said that the recent fighting in northern Tigray had trapped them and caused shortages of food, fuel and electricity. The group said they feared that the airport closure would be permanent. 

“Flights have been canceled indefinitely, and this is no longer a delay of just a few days,” the group wrote. “Fuel, food and cash supplies in the city are extremely limited, according to local residents and hotel staff.”

They said they were concerned that communications could be completely cut off, as had happened in the Tigray region the previous day, making it difficult for them to contact the embassy in Addis Ababa and their families in Israel.
