UAE unveils $5B India investment push during Modi visit: What to know
India and the UAE signed deals related to energy supplies and maritime security, further strengthening ties amid the war in the region.
The United Arab Emirates announced $5 billion worth of investments in India on Friday during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Abu Dhabi, while companies from the two countries signed agreements spanning energy, defense, maritime cooperation and artificial intelligence.
Modi’s visit comes on the heels of a BRICS meeting in New Delhi and as India and the UAE navigate the effects of the Iran war and conflict in the Strait of Hormuz.
What happened: Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Friday and was greeted by Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed at the airport, with the Indian premier describing the welcome in a post on X as a “special gesture.”
