Four Israeli soldiers arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran: What to know
Since the Oct. 7 attacks, several Israelis have been prosecuted for spying for Iran, but this is the first case involving active-duty soldiers.
Four Israeli soldiers on active duty were arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran and are still being held by the Shin Bet, Israel's domestic security agency, for questioning.
The names of the four soldiers have not been disclosed, Ynet reported Monday, per a gag order from the court. The soldiers were arrested several weeks ago, per the report.
The Shin Bet and police are conducting a joint investigation into the affair, which is regarded as particularly grave with significant security implications. Although the suspects’ identities have not been cleared for publication, the court has permitted some media coverage of the case, including the general nature of the allegations.
Ynet reported that the Shin Bet and police are examining suspicions that the suspects were instructed by Tehran to manufacture explosives and conduct experiments with the materials.
