Azerbaijan accuses Iran of drone strike on airport
The attacks damaged an airport in the Nakhchivan exclave and slightly wounded two civilians.
ANKARA — Two drone attacks struck Azerbaijan’s exclave of Nakhchivan on Thursday in what Azerbaijani officials described as strikes launched from Iranian territory, though Tehran denied involvement.
What happened: One drone hit the terminal building at Nakhchivan International Airport, causing a fire, footage from Turkey’s HaberTurk television showed.
Another fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad on the Iran-Azerbaijan border, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Two people were slightly wounded, the Azerbaijani statement reported, continuing, “We strongly condemn these drone attacks launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in damage to the airport building and injuries to two civilians.”
