Saudi Ferrari among $9.4M in cars seized during London 'supercar season'
Dozens of supercars were seized by London police last week during a popular time for the world's wealthy vehicle owners to tour the city.
Supercars worth 6 million British pounds ($9.4 million) — including a pair of identical purple Lamborghinis, a Saudi Arabia-registered Ferrari and a Ford Shelby Mustang that appeared to have made the journey from Kuwait — were seized by London police last week in a crackdown on uninsured vehicles.
The confiscations came amid the so-called supercar season — when wealthy people, many of them from the Middle East, flock to upmarket London neighborhoods to parade their flashy vehicles.
The police operation was prompted by complaints from residents, businesses and visitors in affluent areas like Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea, who reported the cars causing noise and disruption. Their drivers were given notices and fined.
Some 72 luxury vehicles from makers including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Bentley were seized on the grounds of being unroadworthy or driven illegally, according to a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police issued Tuesday.
