Qatari royal expands Africa push with $12B in Botswana after $39B in DRC, Zambia
A Qatari delegation began a tour of 10 African countries on Aug. 13 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, to explore investment opportunities.
A company owned by an influential member of the Qatari royal family has signed a $12 billion investment deal with the southern African country of Botswana, days after the same Gulf firm signed a $19 billion deal in Zambia and a $20 billion accord with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Al Mansour Holding Company, which is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani, signed an agreement with the state-owned Botswana Development Corporation on Thursday. The deal will focus on sectors including energy, infrastructure, mining, agriculture, tourism, cybersecurity and defense, Botswana President Duma Boko wrote in a Facebook post.
“The move will be enough to address immediate challenges facing the country,” he said.
The Qatari delegation arrived in Botswana on Wednesday to explore investments and economic partnerships.
