Why US is offering $10M reward for info on Hezbollah in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
Hezbollah maintains a presence in South America’s tri-border area as well as in friendly Venezuela.
The US government announced on Monday a reward of $10 million for information on Hezbollah’s activities in the tri-border area between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, the latest sign of concern from Washington over the Iran-backed group’s presence in the troubled region.
The State Department’s Rewards for Justice program said in a statement it is offering up to $10 million for “information leading to the disruption of the financial mechanisms” of Hezbollah in the tri-border area between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
Hizballah operates in regions far from its base in Lebanon, including in South America.

The department accused Hezbollah of money laundering, drug trafficking, oil smuggling and other illicit activities in the area. The US is specifically seeking information on Hezbollah’s finances, business activity and alleged criminal schemes, per the statement.
Why it matters: Hezbollah has been implicated in various plots and attacks in Latin America. In November 2023, Brazil arrested two people for allegedly helping Hezbollah plot attacks on Israeli and Jewish interests in the country.
