Jordan’s border forces killed four drug smugglers attempting to cross from Syria, seizing weapons and narcotics in the latest crackdown on smuggling along the border.
Jordan’s army said Thursday its border forces killed at least four drug smugglers who attempted to cross the northern border from Syria into the kingdom in the latest narcotics smuggling incident along the Jordanian-Syrian border.
What happened: In a statement, the Jordanian army said its border forces engaged in clashes early Thursday with armed smugglers who had taken advantage of the bad weather and fog to cross into Jordan. Four of the smugglers were killed while the rest retreated to Syrian territory, according to the statement.
During the operation, the border forces seized large quantities of narcotics and weapons. The statement did not reveal the type of drugs nor the amount confiscated.
“The Jordanian Armed Forces affirm that they are continuing to leverage all available resources to prevent infiltration and smuggling, and using force to maintain the security and stability of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” the statement read.
