What's significance of UAE's Sheikh Tahnoon third visit to Qatar in a year?
Qatar and the UAE are strengthening ties with high-profile meetings and joint investments like the $20 billion Development Road Project. However, differing views on Gaza’s future could challenge their cooperation.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani hosted Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security advisor, in Doha on Monday.
The two “discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries and topics of mutual interest,” according to a statement from Sheikh Tahnoon's X account on Monday. “The UAE-Qatar relations are historical and solid, with the leadership of both countries working to push them forward in various fields,” he added.
Sheikh Tahnoon's visit marks his third meeting with Qatar’s emir in 2024 alone, after visits in April and August.
Along with holding sway over foreign policy, the UAE senior official oversees $1.5 trillion in private and state assets, including two sovereign wealth funds: the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and the Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ). Sheikh Tahnoon also chairs G42, a technology holding company and AI giant that is a key pillar in the UAE's aims to become a tech hub in the region.
