Gazan workers fall prey to brokers claiming to offer work permits
Amid the poor economic conditions and as thousands of Gazans seek to obtain work permits inside Israel, fraudulent brokers have spread in the besieged enclave claiming to be able to secure permits.
Illegal work permit brokers in the Gaza Strip are preying on Gazan workers who are already reeling under the brunt of a difficult economic situation. These brokers pretend to be capable of issuing legal permits to work inside Israel.
The brokers create fake social media pages with messages such as “We have work permits” or “Obtain a work permit.” In other cases, the brokers lie directly to workers' faces.
The only official body within the Gaza Strip handling communication with Israel regarding work permits is the General Authority of Civil Affairs, while the Ministry of Labor supervises the process.
Under the pretext that they have strong relations inside Israel, the brokers lead Gazan workers to think that permits can be secured without the workers having to register their names with the official bodies, where citizens often have to wait long hours without even getting approved for a permit in some cases.
