One reported dead in fight between Kurdish groups in Iraq
A peshmerga soldier in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq reportedly died during a fight with the PKK on Sunday amid tensions between the two groups as well as with Turkey.
Clashes between Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq reportedly led to one death on Sunday.
Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters shot at peshmerga forces in a small town in northwestern Dahuk province on Sunday night. One peshmerga soldier died as a result, a peshmerga officer told the Iraqi Kurdish news outlet Rudaw.
The PKK-affiliated news outlet Roj News, however, reported that peshmerga forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) opened fire on PKK vehicles in Dahuk province on Sunday, causing injuries to three PKK fighters.
The peshmerga is the military of the autonomous Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. The KDP is the largest party in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and peshmerga forces are either affiliated with the KDP or the second-largest party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Dahuk province is controlled by the KDP.
