Turkey looks to expand Syria energy footprint into oil, gas
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said state oil giant TPAO and private companies are ready to explore for oil and gas onshore and offshore in Syria.
Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Wednesday that his country is ready to explore for oil and gas in Syria, as Damascus seeks foreign investment to rebuild an energy sector battered by 13 years of civil war.
What happened: Bayraktar made the comments at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart, Mohammed al-Bashir, during a daylong visit to Damascus. The two discussed expanding energy cooperation, including in hydrocarbons, electricity and mining.
Bayraktar said Turkish state oil giant TPAO and private companies are ready to conduct seismic surveys and exploration drilling both offshore and onshore in Syria.
In a post on X, Bayraktar said the two sides also reviewed ongoing electricity and natural gas projects and discussed new mining investments.
