Resumption in Yemen's oil exports 'possible' with security measures: VP
Deputy chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Sultan Ali al-Aradah expressed confidence in US President Donald Trump's approach to the Houthis and Iran, though a military campaign against the group may face limitations.
Yemeni Vice President Sultan Ali al-Aradah told Al-Monitor that Yemen could achieve its plans to resume oil exports amid the country's escalating war, but said that any US investment must come with security measures due to the threat posed by the Iran-backed Houthis.
Aradah, one of seven deputy chairmen of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and the governor of the central Marib province, spoke to Al-Monitor via Zoom amid renewed fighting between the Yemeni government, backed by Saudi Arabia, and the Houthis.
Aradah has served as Marib governor since 2012 and was named to the council in 2022. The council was formed in 2022 and aimed to include figures from across government territory. Aradah is a major general in the Yemeni army and is one of the prominent military and political leaders in the oil-rich Marib province, which borders Houthi-controlled territory in western Yemen.
