Iran president says he held official meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei: What to know
The president’s announcement marks the first public confirmation of a meeting between a senior official and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen publicly since the start of the war.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Thursday he met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen in public since his appointment during the early days of the war with the United States and Israel.
What happened: Speaking at a meeting with trade unions and market representatives at the Iranian Interior Ministry on Thursday, Pezeshkian said his encounter with the supreme leader lasted about two and a half hours in what he described as a “humble and deeply cordial” atmosphere.
“What stood out to me more than anything else in this meeting was [Khamenei’s] manner, perspective, and deeply sincere and humble behavior, an approach that transformed the atmosphere into one based on trust, calmness, empathy and direct dialogue,” he added.
Pezeshkian did not reveal when or where the meeting took place, the details of what was discussed or if any other officials were present. But he said that Khamenei approached the meeting in the “spirit” of dialogue and trust.
