WASHINGTON — Three US soldiers were killed and five more "seriously wounded" on the second day of the US and Israeli conflict with Iran, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release Sunday.

“Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are in the process of being returned to duty,” CENTCOM said.

The command did not specify the circumstances of the deaths, citing respect for plans to notify service members’ families.

Iran has launched hundreds of retaliatory ballistic missiles and drones at neighboring countries hosting US bases.

The State Department said Sunday that US government personnel had been relocated from hotels in Bahrain after the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manama was struck by an Iranian projectile.

The compound housing the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama was struck Saturday, but officials said there were no US casualties.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
