TEHRAN — Iran has characterized the first round of Oman-mediated talks with the United States on Feb. 6 as constructive, and a follow-up session is expected as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and a cadre of diplomats including Majid Takht-Ravanchi and other nuclear dossier veterans take point in shaping Tehran’s negotiating strategy.

The selection of Iran’s delegation reflects a deliberate approach. The team blends institutional memory, technical expertise and political messaging capacity with acute awareness of the talks' domestic and international stakes.

Unlike the broader delegations seen in major multilateral negotiations, Iran's current team appears relatively compact, a deliberate choice reflecting Tehran's preference for controlled, disciplined diplomacy. 

Each member serves a distinct function: Araghchi as chief strategist and negotiator, Takht-Ravanchi as senior diplomatic architect, Baghaei as narrative manager and economic experts like Ghanbari handling procedural complexities. The composition of the Iranian team suggests Tehran is preparing for a prolonged, step-by-step process rather than a rapid breakthrough.
