Russia to host PA’s Abbas as Putin mulls joining Trump's Gaza Board of Peace
President Mahmoud Abbas’ visit will coincide with the signing ceremony of the Trump administration's Board of Peace charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived Wednesday in Moscow for a two-day visit during which he is scheduled to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The move coincides with US President Donald Trump’s formal announcement of the Board of Peace, a body tasked with overseeing a Palestinian technocratic authority that would oversee day-to-day governance in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Abbas’ visit and his upcoming meeting with Putin. He did not specify the agenda of the talks.
However, an official source told the Palestine News Network on Tuesday that Abbas and Putin will discuss a range of issues, including the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, ways to uphold the truce and bring an end to the Israeli military's operations in the Gaza Strip, and Israel's escalating settlement activity in the occupied West Bank.
The two leaders will also address bilateral relations and ways to boost coordination in various fields, according to the official source.
