Iranian officials said Wednesday they are prepared for a military confrontation with the United States while signaling openness to a new nuclear agreement, as President Donald Trump escalates his threats against the Islamic Republic.

What happened: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the military is “prepared” and would respond more decisively than it did during the June 2025 Israel-Iran war when tensions over Iran’s nuclear program boiled into open conflict.

“The valuable lessons learned from the 12-day war have enabled us to respond even more strongly, rapidly and profoundly,” he said in an X post.

Araghchi added that Iran remains open to a new nuclear deal with Washington, reiterating that Tehran does not seek a nuclear weapon.
