Yemeni ministries declare support for STC campaign as Gulf tensions flare
Yemen's Saudi-backed government criticized the statements in support of the Southern Transitional Council, which is supported by the UAE, as Gulf states deliberate on how to move forward.
A number of Yemeni government institutions declared support for the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council's recent military offensive on Sunday, escalating tensions with the Saudi-backed government as regional diplomacy kicks into gear.
What happened: The ministries of civil service and insurance, social affairs and labor, and agriculture and fisheries were among the bodies that said they back the STC's aspirations in Yemen in a series of statements and declarations.
The same day, thousands rallied in Aden calling for the restoration of an independent state in southern Yemen.

The Aden-based STC is backed by the United Arab Emirates and supports the secession of southern Yemen. South Yemen was independent from 1970 to 1990, when it unified with the rest of the country.
