Israeli military actions in Syria continue despite American efforts toward a security deal, with one minister recently saying that “war is inevitable.”

The Israeli military arrested a man in southern Syria early Wednesday, the government in Damascus said, underscoring the limits of US efforts to persuade Israel to ease its hardening posture toward the country.

What happened: Syria’s official news outlet, SANA, reported that Israel carried out an incursion into the village of al-Ardah in the southwestern Deraa province after midnight and arrested a young man. Israeli forces raided several homes in the area before withdrawing, according to the outlet.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the reason for the arrest was not known. The area is located between the villages of Aabdyn and Ma’ariya, about two kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The Israeli military has not commented on the incident and did not immediately respond to Al-Monitor’s request for comment.
