Rubio says immediate goal on Sudan is cessation of hostilities going into new year

WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday said that Washington's immediate goal on Sudan is a cessation of hostilities going into the new year that allows humanitarian organizations to be able to deliver assistance.

Rubio, speaking to reporters at a news conference, said that countries are providing weaponry and equipment to the parties, including transshipment of weapons particularly to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. He added that the Trump administration has engaged with leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt on Sudan.
