India and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding to expand military cooperation on Tuesday after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz met with his Indian counterpart, Rajesh Kumar Singh, in Tel Aviv.
The developments come as Israel Aerospace Industries is pursuing a major defense contract with Delhi worth nearly $905 million, according to Israeli economic daily Globes, as the two countries deepen military ties.
What happened: The defense pact was signed during the 17th Joint Working Group meeting held in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, co-chaired by Singh and Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense Maj. Gen. Amir Baram.
The memorandum paves the way for further collaboration across several domains, including strategic dialogues, training, defense industrial cooperation, research and development, AI, cybersecurity and innovation, India's Defense Ministry said in a statement. It added that the deal aims to bolster development, production and sharing of advanced defense technologies between the two countries.
