Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said the move is in line with Saudi Arabia's investment strategy, particularly its desire to increase computing capabilities and develop an artificial intelligence sector.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman pledged on Tuesday to increase the kingdom’s US investments to $1 trillion, following pressure from President Donald Trump to up the figure.

The Saudi leader said the kingdom will boost the figure from the $600 billion pledged in May, saying the two leaders would sign agreements on the matter. “The opportunities are increasing more and more,” said Prince Mohammed.

Trump said he was pleased with the pledge. Earlier in the meeting, the president said he might need to “work on” the Saudi royal to get him to increase the dollar amount.

The crown prince said the increased pledge fits the kingdom’s investment strategy, particularly its push to become an artificial intelligence hub, saying the country has a “huge demand for computing power.”
