Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa hailed a "historic opportunity" to invest in post-war Syria on a visit Wednesday to Saudi Arabia to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and court funds from business leaders at the Future Investment Initiative summit in Riyadh.

What happened: Addressing business and political leaders at the FII Conference, Sharaa discussed Syria’s reconstruction and investment opportunities, as part of the government’s broader strategy to boost economic integration and open up international markets.

The president stressed that Syria intends to court investment and private sector collaboration to fund its reconstruction rather than asking for more aid.
